Airstream travel trailer maintenance schedule.
Riveted aluminum lasts decades when it's cared for on a schedule. Here's what to check and when — by mileage and by calendar — to keep your Airstream structurally sound and road-ready. Whichever interval comes first.
Every 1,000 miles
or 60 days
- Check operation of escape window latches and upper hinge
- Test the smoke alarm and CO detector; replace batteries as needed
- Check and adjust tire pressure; inspect for wear or damage
- Examine the hitch for loose bolts or unusual wear
- Test the GFI circuit breaker
Every 5,000 miles
or 90 days
- Lubricate the main door latch and exterior door locks with dry graphite
- Lubricate exterior hinges and LPG hold-down with light household oil
- Check the LPG regulator for obstructions
- Torque wheel lug nuts — 110 ft-lbs aluminum wheels, 100 ft-lbs steel
- Spray the 7-way plug with contact cleaner; lubricate the hitch ball and range exhaust hood
- Inspect and lubricate the main door step
Every 10,000 miles
or 6 months
- Inspect brakes and replace if necessary
- Visually inspect wheel bearings; consider tire rotation
- Clean and treat window and door seals with mild detergent and a protective coating
- Apply wax to the exterior and lubricate the escape window latches
Annual maintenance
once a year
- Service the battery — clean terminals and apply protective jelly
- Purge and inspect LPG tanks
- Check and reseal exterior seams, windows, lights, and vents
- Ensure the hitch coupler and ball are free from wear and operate smoothly
- Visually inspect interior cabinetry; use silicone spray on necessary components
Beyond the schedule above: keep up regular cleaning of interior and exterior surfaces, check sealants seasonally, make sure appliances are functioning, and keep the drainage system clear to prevent backups.
