Wheel bearings shouldn't be left out of your regular maintenance. How often you need them greased really comes down to how you use your rig — here's what to know.
Go by how you travel
- If you only take a few short trips each year, you probably don't need those wheel bearings greased every season.
- If you travel frequently and rack up a lot of miles, you may need it done more than once a season. It really depends on how you use your travel trailer.
The better rule: go by the miles
A more reliable approach is to track mileage rather than the calendar. Have the wheel bearings checked every 10,000 to 12,000 miles or so by a service professional.
Can't keep up with the miles?
If tracking mileage isn't realistic, fall back to the once-a-season or once-a-year suggestion. Set a day on your calendar — or during the off-season, when you're getting your RV winterized, just request the service then. It's an easy one to bundle.
